This was a bit of a weird one (seriously guys, look in the Catechism), but I am glad I stuck through it to the good parts. I think a good way to introduce how Eros/Cupid got stuck as a human is if the gods are dying because no one worships them anymore, as their power relies on peoples' sacrifices and dependence on the gods. Some left Olympus to become human in order to survive, and continued on for hundreds of years, slowly aging as centuries pass, while others, too proud to become human, stayed in Olympus, slowly fading out of memory as their powers are lost, and now only Aphrodite/Venus is left of the gods who stayed, as she is the most powerful, and technically not related to the other major gods. Cupid was the first to leave, desiring the freedom that being human meant and wanting to retain what power he had for as long as possible, and so he has slowly aged while witnessing war, oppression, innovation, genocide, hate, and more war. He finds it harder and harder to believe that anyone can truly love another for the other's good alone, and eventually comes to the conclusion that love is a lie, and the only things that truly exist are power, wealth, and pleasure.
Aphrodite calls down to Artemis, one of the last to leave Olympus, and therefore still "young", asking her to find Cupid so that she can do some last good in the world before she dies, as it is their separation that has allowed such strife to spread, for without Affection Love (to name them lightly) cannot spread to the world. Artemis swears she will find him for her.
Cut to an old half naked man riding a motorcycle off of a bamboo gazebo that is built next to a large ranch house, leaving some beer bottles scattered on top, down onto a long Texas road, holding in one hand a harp which he has just stolen from Apollo's ranch (Apollo is known to have a large herd of cows) and in the other he waves a sniper rifle to a cop parked on the side of the road that can't see him, due to the fact that Cupid is usually invisible unless he wants to be seen.
There are instances in Greek mythology where some gods are forced to become human for a time as punishment, and so they could in fact make themselves human in order to continue to exist alongside humans. Anyway, sorry for the long "comment". Just a thought. Stay awesome guys.
PS If you don't mind me asking, how do I comment on a specific podcast on iTunes? I can only find the place to comment on the podcast series as a whole.
